In the week that was Qantas announced their new VR app, reduced tariffs on its QF5/6 services between Australia and Singapore and introduced new business PJs, Virgin Australia made changes for business class guests and London Heathrow Airport opened a new pay-per-use lounge facility

Qantas VR app

Qantas has launched a new virtual reality app. Qantas VR allows users to explore a destination before physically travelling there. Currently, 13 destinations are available including Kakadu, Uluru and Alice Springs, Sydney, Hamilton Island and more, with others in the pipeline. The app is available for iPhone, Android and other smart devices.

Virgin Australia arrivals lounge

Virgin Australia business class guests now have access to the carrier’s lounge post-flight as well as pre-flight. Previously only available to Velocity Gold and Platinum frequent flyers, the service is now offered to all domestic business class guests with an eligible same-day itinerary or boarding pass. Post-flight lounge access remains unavailable after international flights.

Adina expands in Germany

Germany has welcome two new Adina Apartment Hotels. The Adina Apartment Hotel Nuremberg, located in the city’s old town, features 137 apartments and three conference rooms. Meanwhile, the Adina Apartment Hotel Frankfurt is located adjacent to the newly opened Kap-Europa conference centre and features 181 apartments and two small conference rooms.

India notes withdrawn

Travellers to India should be aware that the Indian government is withdrawing all 500 and 1,000 rupee bank notes from circulation. Until new notes are issued travellers should not accept any denomination higher than 100 rupees.

Qantas Singapore tariff changes

Qantas has reduced tariffs on its QF5/6 services between Australia and Singapore. The carrier has cut D class 50- and 21-day advance fares between Adelaide and Singapore by $300 as well as introducing Q and N class fares on ADL-SYD-SIN flights. Q class fares have also fallen $10 return on its Sydney-Singapore route.

Park Hyatt Kyoto

A new Park Hyatt hotel is planned for Kyoto. Expected to open in 2019, the new Japanese property will feature 70 rooms and be located within walking distance of the Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Club Aspire opens at London Heathrow

London Heathrow Airport has a new pay-per-use lounge facility. Club Aspire is located in Terminal 3 and is open to Priority Pass members as part of their membership. Other travellers wishing to use the facility can pre-book entry for three hours at a cost of £24.99 (just over $40).

New Qantas PJs

Qantas has redesigned its business class pyjamas. On select international flights, business class guests will be offered grey pyjamas featuring a navy kangaroo logo, with draw-string pants and a new raglan-style long-sleeved top for “a more relaxed fit”.
