Qantas will give its customers frequent flyer points just for taking a walk around the block as part of its new line of health insurance products.
The airline is teaming up with insurer nib to offer health and travel insurance policies under what will be known as Qantas Assure.
Qantas frequent flyers who purchase a policy can use an app, synched with wearable fitness technology that logs the steps they’ve taken in a day and rewards them with corresponding points.
“This is not about simply earning points when you pay a bill,” Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said.
“It’s about offering members the opportunity to be rewarded for being more active, which is something that also has a direct impact on improving your wellness.”
The airline said it was targeting a two to three per cent share of the private health insurance market in its first five years.
